Amazing what a few tins of paint can do

A pretty pink cottage with an equally soft interior nestled in a beautiful Welsh village is on the market. The semi-detached home that looks like a property offering pastel heaven can be found in the small village of Pentrecagal, east of Newcastle Emlyn and nestled within the Carmarthenshire countryside.

The village developed around the road junction where one of the roads out of the Drefach-Felindre valleys joined the main road down the Teifi Valley. The site goes on to state that Pwll y Gwyddau on the road between Pentrecagal and Waungilwen was known as 'the clay pools' because people came to dig out the clay to mix with coal dust to make fuel for all the household's fires and kitchen range.

Maybe one of the past owners of this cute abode was a regular visitor to collect clay, but the next owner will be please to learn that the cottage can offer an oil-fired combi boiler in the garden rather than a trek down the road.

There are all the modern appliances required inside the property too, so there should be less time spent cooking and cleaning and more time popping the cork of a bottle of bubbly to enjoy in the bubbles of the surprise addition of a garden hot tub. Looking at the decor of the cottage, it has to be pink champagne of course.

After a hard day at work or play, the offer of rest in the hot tub adds a big tick to the selling points of this village home, situated just a few miles from Newcastle Emlyn if the plonk starts to run out and the flute glasses become empty.

If water of a different kind is required, the agent selling the cottage says the gorgeous west Wales coastline is an only 20-minute drive away either towards Pembrokeshire or south through Carmarthenshire.

But this sweet home hasn't always been a pink palace offering its king or queen an idyllic soft shade existence in the heart of a little village, it used to be a well-loved home but without a hint of pink or pastel shades in sight.

Just painting the facade pink and being brave and painting the front door and window frames in a soft sage green using specialist exterior plastic appropriate paint has given the house a noticeable facelift.

The cottage can offer a carport for the car as well as a row of slate flagstones that can be home for a bench as well as pots of flowers and plants to enhance the front of the house even further.

The central front door opens into a handy little porchway that provides two doors to protect against breezes barging their way in and to arrest any road noise trying to do the same.

The main room on the ground floor is a spacious lounge that oozes cosy charm thanks mainly to the very attractive exposed stone chimney breast and fireplace which has a log burner nestled snuggling inside it. There's an exposed ceiling beam above to add to the character and tactile checked pattern carpet underfoot in neutral tones to add to the physical and visual warmth.

The warm, earthy tones are a furniture feature but the pastel pallet that began on the cottage facade continues inside and in this room via the painted wooden door and cladding where the stairs to the bedroom upstairs are hiding.

In the adjacent room and in a previous life it was a second bedroom - and can be again - but currently, it is a sociable dining room, with bespoke banquette seating in the corner making the most of the space for maximum family and friends to join you without taking up the majority of the space.

The warm-toned carpet continues from the lounge as does the joy of adding a palette of pastels to the interior design and in this space the range increases to involve the pink and sage green first introduced on the exterior of the house, that is now joined by a pale sky blue; and it looks so pretty.

This room happily offers an abundance of storage for a cute cottage, the previous bedroom's built-in wardrobes now painted pink with character metal door furniture via handles and hinges to add extra country cottage charm.

The kitchen is found at the rear of the cottage and runs along two-thirds of the width of the home, and it is arguably one of the rooms that has changed the least, with a change in the flooring, a freshening up of the cupboards and some added accessories appearing to be the only changes.

It's a room that you would happily potter about in, cooking up a feast to share in the dining room, on the garden terrace or even in the hot tub, if you're careful not to drop your food into the bubbles. The washing up won't be too much of a chore either, with a well-framed view of the garden provided by the leaded window.

The bathroom has also had minimal changes for maximum impact with not a huge budget blown on a total and not needed renovation project. The modern, white suite of course is a joy to find, no need to do anything to that to the most expensive items in the room, but the current owner has again brought their own style to the home by making a few, cheaper changes.

The floor space is not huge, so updating the flooring to a style that suits personal taste is not a budget breaker, and neither is the change of shower curtain.

The most noticeable update is the tiles, which look like a new addition, but the same type of update could be achieved using specialist paint and stencils.

The tiles give the bathroom a style that is currently 'on trend' so a new owner can relax peacefully in the bath knowing the room is showcasing a popular look that adds interest to a potentially boring space. The blue toilet seat matching the blind also brings a pop of colour to the scheme and reminds the bath occupant that the pretty Afon Teifi river valley isn't too far away.

Although the cottage was previously two bedrooms, the current owner happily lives in this pretty cottage as a one bed, and the only slumber zone that they need is up in the loft that they have converted into a pretty and peaceful place to snooze and snore.

The dark beams have gone and now the original wooden frame of the roof structure is sporting the soft sage shade first introduced to a visitor via the front door and it's a bold choice - how many beams in Wales can shout sage as their special overcoat of colour?

But in this pastel palace it works, continuing the fairytale feeling and helping to make the bedroom look much lighter, brighter and welcoming, especially when paired with the pink ceiling and classic check pattern bedding which bring a sense of calm to the space.

Extra lighting in the eaves space to supplement the window also adds extra ambience via pools of warm light that work wonders at creating a warm and welcoming space to snuggle and relax into a deep sleep knowing that the bubblegum cottage is a pretty and special place to call home.
