UK, Leeds-based Union Industries has been awarded a contract by BAE Systems to support its submarine facility in Barrow.

UK, Leeds-based Union Industries has been awarded a contract by BAE Systems to support its submarine facility in Barrow.

Union Industries has more than 40 years of experience designing, manufacturing and installing its range of industrial curtains.

The company’s engineered static screen with high level infills has been installed at the facility site of BAE.

The 85m x 22.5m screen is composed of heavyweight PVC coated polyester, and provides two emergency escape doors, complying with BAE’s health and safety standards.

The screen will shield the manufacturing process from dust contamination owing to an extensive refurbishment programme in one of its manufacturing units.

It will control the temperature of the manufacturing unit by preventing exposure to the external climate, as well as shielding it from the heat generated from welding.

Installation of the static screen requires a specially designed mounting system, fixings and tensioning devices tailored to the existing roof structure to endure high internal pressure loadings.

Union Industries managing director Andrew Lane said: "Our bespoke curtain has been made to a very unique specification that meets BAE Systems’ needs; we recognise that there isn’t a one size fits all approach and we specialise in creating bespoke Fabric Solutions for businesses, no matter how big or small they are."
