Paramount is considering folding its Showtime streaming service into Paramount+, combining the two platforms in the midst of a crowded market.

Paramount Global is considering folding its Showtime streaming service into Paramount+. The company has seen a boost of success in its Paramount+ platform as of late. This is thanks to shows like Halo, which Paramount wishes to turn into a television franchise, as well as its decision to release popular films like Sonic the Hedgehog 2 onto Paramount+ after 45 days of screening in theaters.

Now it appears Paramount wishes to make more of its content easier to access by putting Showtime under its Paramount+ umbrella. The Wall Street Journal reports that Paramount Global is considering shutting down its Showtime streaming service, moving all of its content onto Paramount+. A spokesperson for Paramount Gloabal said, "We are always exploring options to maximize the value of our content investment by giving consumers access to great Paramount content through an array of services and platforms."

The Showtime streaming service's possible departure may irk those who use the platform to watch exclusives like City on a Hill or the Emmy-nominated Yellowjackets but don't have a Paramount+ subscription or cable service. Even so, it's still a partial relief that if Paramount does decide to close the curtain on the Showtime streaming platform, its content would migrate to Paramount+. While it may mean adding a subscription for some users, it would also provide easier access to Paramount's content, including all the shows and movies already housed on Paramount+.
